16 Minutes

I'm sure you've all heard the old Andy Warhol quote: “In the future everyone will be world-famous for fifteen minutes.” It always surprises me how many people want to be famous. They see fame as a goal. . They change the way they look, act, dress all in the pursuit of fame. They do unusual or even disgusting things to achieve fame (reality television anyone?). I don't usually acknowledge my tenuous grasp on fame, but for my first ever post, in my first ever blog I feel like I should be candid.
I've been famous...& it's really not that great.

Having fame would be in my top ten of nightmares. It is so cool that you had parents and castmates who never sold you the "dream" of fame as some ultimate goal, and that you grew up so level-headed.

Not all fame is so bad or so fleeting: Among all of my gay male friends, you are considered royalty; all my straight male friends to whom I've shown your picture are envious of your husband! Perhaps the most meaningful vote of support comes from my friends' 3-year-old Kaleb, who insists I bring Bewitchted Season 3 with me when I visit. He's verbally behind, but very sharp. He points to your picture on the DVD cover and grins "Bee-bee!" ("Baby") He will only sit through the episodes in which you're featured. Doesn't that beat stardom all to heck and back? :-)

I'm glad you're starting a blog! They're always fun- I've had one for about 3 years now, and it's an excellent place for sharing thoughts on life, current events, random things, venting, or just getting feedback on whatever I ask about. I wish you the best of luck! :)

From what I've seen, you've handled your fame well. I saw an episode of "Newlyweds" where Jessica Simpson went shopping, having a camera crew with her, but having her bodyguard shoo away any fans who came near her. On one hand, she's promoting herself and her fame, but on the other hand pretending that nobody should react to that fame.

I hope that people at least respect your privacy when appropriate.

Erin, I loved Bewitched growing up, although I cannot say that I am fanatic or anything, it looks like you not only survived TV stardom, but was able t keep it all in perspective.
Looking back as an adult, I think Bewitched often had positive messages, while "I Dream Of Jeannie" was mearly a slapstick comedy of magic.
I always thought it was such a coincidence that the 2 actors that played Darren had similar names and passed away around the same time or within a couple of years of each other.
